Hello friends 👋 Hope you are well!
Before jumping into today’s topic, I would like to share a thought I had from today.
I had a chat with my old boss to share my struggles learning to be a first-time founder. One of the things I shared with him was how I felt quite stagnant in my growth as a product person and as a business operator. It feels like I hit a ceiling because I know very little and I don’t really know how I should drive myself forward every day. This lack of confidence might come from a mental barrier I am building for myself as well as from my lack of experience working in successful companies.
These are the questions that I am asking myself as I navigate my entrepreneurship journey:
What do I want to get out of this entrepreneurship journey?
Am I growing in a direction that aligns with my long-term goals?
What skill sets should I be investing in?
There are days that I really love the freedom and agency that comes with working on my own. There are days that I feel really lonely and stuck in my growth, wishing I had a manager:)
If you have questions to help me reflect on myself, please send them my way:)
Okay on to today’s topic!
While feeling very lonely today, I asked ChatGPT to be my product buddy.
I am very curious about how humans and AI can work alongside each other when it comes to knowledge work.
I asked myself “Hmm in order to get better at product, I need to learn from the best product people out there right?”
Who is something I would love to learn product from?
Lenny! Love his content.
So here is what I tried with ChatGPT today.
Example 1: I asked ChatGPT to help me with product strategy.
Asking ChatGPT to learn from the best product thinker
First, I asked ChatGPT to learn Lenny’s content on the qualities of a great product strategy. I trained ChatGPT with a framework or way of thinking that I want to cultivate.
Assigning ChatGPT with a specific role and a specific task
Then, I asked ChatGPT to act as a product manager working on my business and apply Lenny’s thinking to define the product strategy, roadmap, and goals of our business for the rest of the year and in the next 2 years.
I also asked ChatGPT to specifically come up with the product strategy and roadmap given Lenny’s content.
ChatGPT gave me a detailed plan for 2023, 2024 and 2025. Not bad at all!
Asking ChatGPT to explain itself
Then, in order to understand how ChatGPT applied Lenny’s thinking. I asked:
As you can see, ChatGPT explained to me how it applied the 5 qualities of a great strategy to the business case that I provided. Reading ChatGPT’s answers here helped me better understand how to apply Lenny’s thinking in my work as sometimes his posts are quite theoretical.
Example 2: I asked ChatGPT to help me measure product market fit.
Similar to the steps in example 1, I first fed ChatGPT with the framework from a product person that I found trustworthy. Then, I asked ChatGPT to use that framework in the product plan/roadmap that we had in the previous steps.
Here, you can see that I still need to curate the people I want to learn from, like Rahul and Lenny, and execute the ideas and frameworks that they shared myself. But what I asked ChatGPT to help me is to use the same information of our business to update the product plan or a roadmap with a new framework or way of execution and think through this planning and strategy process with me.
What I want to try out in my workflow is to:
(1) consume content from the best people in the market I want to learn from
(2) feed relevant content to the business document me and ChatGPT has created
(3) ask ChatGPT to help me write the execution plan
Finally, I will be ChatGPT’s slave and execute this myself:)
Who is the manager now? I wonder 🥹
This post is inspired by Lenny’s “How to use ChatGPT in your PM work” post. You can check out the post to learn the many more ways you can use ChatGPT in your product work.
Hope you are having a productive week:)
how do you feel about the result tho
